The Gumby Project: Week 1

About two weeks ago, I decided it would be fun to do my own photo project during 2011. Lots of things are in store over the next few months (such as graduation, travels, new job, etc.) and I thought a photo project would be a fun way to capture all of life's adventures over the next year.

I wanted to do something like "Flat Stanley," but I wanted to use something smaller that would be easy to carry around with me everywhere. I went to Toy Joy to search out the perfect candidate, and I found a bin of these little guys:

I decided on Gumby, because he is simple, he is the perfect size, and all of the other small trinkets at Toy Joy were either too weird or too expensive. Gumby it is!

That's the story of how we met. So without further ado, here is the first week of Gumby's Adventures:

 Saturday, January 1

My first purchase of 2011 - A Sonic drink. Who is surprised by this? NO ONE.

Sunday, January 2
Packing for Ski Trip to Colorado with Maranda, Chris, Cara and Travis!
Can't forget the essentials: iPod, scarves, boots, journal,
Harry Potter (2 and 3) and Boy Meets World.

Monday, January 3
Watching the sunrise on our flight to Denver.
The five of us had to leave my apartment at 4:30am to get to the airport for our 6:00 flight.

Tuesday, January 4
(I think I lost my picture I took on this day. I'll just use this one instead...)
We spent the day out around Breckenridge,
because Chris had to take the day off due to his accident on Monday.
He couldn't eat solid food, so we got ice cream at the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory.
For once we got to enjoy ice cream at a normal pace, because when it is 15 degrees outside,
there is no danger of it melting and making a mess everywhere.

Wednesday January 5
Hanging out at a coffee shop in Breck.
Reading, drinking cinnamon hot chocolate and writing postcards to Luis.

Thursday, January 6
 Playing in the snow!
Our backyard was about knee-deep in powder,
and when I set Gumby down, he fell right through!

Friday, January 7
Our Hook-Em Snowman.
The snow here was so dry that we had to pour water on it
and let it sit/re-freeze itself together before
we assembled the head and torso onto the base.
By the time it was ready to put together, the head was so frozen
that we couldn't even add a face.

Saturday, January 8
Camped out at the Denver airport waiting to board out flight back to Texas.
When we got on the plane, we were delayed for an hour while they cleaned some sort of muck off the windshield. Once we finally got going, we made stops in Albuquerque and El Paso before finally landing in Austin, five hours after we boarded in Denver.
The Good Part: I found Bobby, an old friend from Dobie, on our flight, and it was nice to sit and talk and catch up with him. I was also glad that I didn't have to sit next to a rando. :)

Sunday, January 9
Post-trip laundry day at Briar's!
I was thankful that he let me come over and do my laundry for free
(instead of having to pay for it in the laundry room at my place),
because I had a TON of laundry to do after this trip.
It was definitely a productive day - I got all my laundry done,
made a pretty good dent in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
(I'm re-reading them all), and semi-watched Mean Girls, Willy Wonka (Gene Wilder),
and Aladdin, which were all on TV over the course of the afternoon.
Yummy dinner and Austin Stone top off a good Sunday.

That's all for now. Can't wait to see what the future holds!
Happy 2011, everyone!
